Article marketing is the writing of a short essay about one topic, and posting it to an online article directory so it will get spread around on the web. That topic should be directly related to your chosen niche or subject.). There are hundreds of online article directories you can submit your article to for free.

Article directories publish your articles as content for their own websites. Directories also make your articles available for content on other marketers' websites. Those marketers are allowed to lift your article from the directory and post it on the marketer's website, or into their ezine (online magazine) freely, providing they keep your bio-information intact.

Your headline is the most crucial part of your article. It is the first line they read. If it does not reach out and grab their interest in 3 seconds, then you did not write it properly. In order to grab your visitors attention so they will read the rest of your article, you need to use a headline that will grab your customers eyeballs. It is so important that you remain very conscious of your phrasing when writing your articles so they naturally flow from one important fact to another, with no meandering off topic. You need to proof read them twice before submission. Always use a free, online spelling/grammar checker to check your final draft just before you submit it. Every computer has one built in.

When you submit your articles, they must go through approval by the article directories for the content, grammar and spelling.

If the article directory accepts your content, it will publish your article. It is relatively easy to write articles. There are thousands of articles on the web for you to use as an example. Then you just follow the directories' guidelines. Article directories publish thousands of articles on the web everyday. You need to get yours out there too. Should your article be rejected, the directory almost always sends you an e-mail with the reason for the rejection. You're then given the chance to edit it and resubmit it to them.

For example, some directories only focus on Internet marketing. You have to check their guidelines before you submit your article to insure your content is appropriate. It is then your article will be available for other persons to read and for webmasters to download to use as content on their own website.

There are two main functions of article marketing. One is to generate back links to your website. With all the many websites using your article for content, many back links will be made and recognized by the spiders crawling your web pages for the search engines. This helps to optimize your website and increase your page ranking. Your ranking is which page of the Google-search your website is found on. Most Google-searchers do not visit links past the first page. Your goal is to have your website URL show up on the first or second page of the Google-page when a million people a day search Google.

The more articles you produce, the more readers will click on to your website, see your offer and make a purchase. You may not appreciate it enough until you see those signups on your squeeze page go past 100. Then you will be a believer. That's what it took for my attitude to change about it. It took me three months to get my first 100 opt-ins/subscribers.
